Brisbane Airport Biosecurity & Facial Recognition Project

Supporting safer, smarter travel through multilingual communication

At Interlingual, we are proud to support major infrastructure and public-facing projects across Australia. One of our recent projects (January – March 2026)  involved working with Brisbane Airport to deliver high-quality translation services for their upcoming biosecurity and facial recognition initiative.
This project plays an important role in improving border processes, enhancing safety, and creating a smoother experience for travellers arriving in Australia.

Background

Brisbane Airport is preparing to implement new technology that combines biosecurity requirements with facial recognition systems. This initiative is designed to streamline passenger processing while maintaining strict compliance with Australian biosecurity laws.
Clear communication is critical in this environment. Travellers from different countries, speaking different languages, must be able to understand instructions quickly and confidently as they move through airport checkpoints.
Brisbane Airport required professional translation services to ensure all messaging is accessible, accurate, and easy to understand across multiple languages.

The Challenge

This project required a high level of precision and coordination. All translated content would be displayed in public areas, including signage and digital systems, meaning there was no room for error.
Biosecurity messaging must meet strict government requirements, so accuracy and consistency were essential. At the same time, the language needed to remain simple and clear for travellers who may be unfamiliar with the processes.
Another key challenge was ensuring consistency across different platforms. The same message needed to appear clearly across physical signage, digital screens, and system prompts without losing meaning.
The project was also time-sensitive, requiring efficient delivery to align with Brisbane Airport’s rollout schedule.

Our Solution

Interlingual worked closely with Brisbane Airport to deliver a complete and reliable translation solution tailored to this complex environment.
We provided translations across more than 190 languages, ensuring coverage for the diverse range of international passengers travelling through Brisbane. Our network of over 800 professional linguists ensured that every translation was accurate, culturally appropriate, and aligned with the intended meaning.
A strong focus was placed on using simple, plain English as the base for translation. This approach ensured that messages remained clear and easy to understand once translated, particularly in a fast-moving airport environment.
We also implemented a structured quality assurance process to maintain consistency across all content. This ensured that messaging remained uniform across signage, digital displays, and passenger processing systems.
Throughout the project, our team worked closely with key stakeholders at Brisbane Airport to manage timelines, updates, and delivery requirements. This collaborative approach allowed us to meet deadlines while maintaining the highest quality standards.

The Outcome

Through this partnership, Brisbane Airport is now equipped with clear and consistent multilingual communication to support its new systems.
Passengers moving through the airport will be able to understand biosecurity requirements and facial recognition processes more easily, regardless of their language background. This improves the overall passenger experience while supporting compliance and operational efficiency.
The project also strengthens accessibility for culturally and linguistically diverse communities, ensuring that all travellers can navigate the airport with confidence.

A Trusted Partner for Large-Scale Projects

This project demonstrates Interlingual’s ability to deliver high-quality translation services for complex, large-scale environments. We support government, businesses, and community organisations across Australia with reliable language solutions that improve communication and accessibility.
We would like to thank Brisbane Airport for partnering with Interlingual and trusting our translation services for this important initiative. We look forward to continuing our work together.
