University Conference Interpreting Project Canberra

Supporting international collaboration through professional interpreting services

At Interlingual, we support universities, government, and international organisations across Australia with high-quality interpreting and language solutions. In February 2026, we partnered with University of Wollongong to deliver full conference interpreting services for a week-long program held in Canberr
This project supported an Indonesian delegation attending a specialised conference and workshop series, where clear communication was essential across all sessions.

Background

The University of Wollongong hosted a five-day conference and training program designed for an Indonesian delegation of approximately 50 participants. The program included presentations, workshops, and interactive sessions delivered entirely in English.
To ensure full participation and understanding, professional simultaneous interpreting was required between Indonesian and English throughout the entire program.
The University needed a trusted partner who could not only provide experienced interpreters, but also manage all technical aspects of interpreting equipment and on-site delivery.

The Challenge

This project required a high level of coordination and consistency across multiple days and sessions.
The interpreting services needed to run continuously for five full days, requiring careful scheduling and interpreter rotation to maintain quality and accuracy. Two professional simultaneous interpreters were required at all times, working in rotation to ensure consistent delivery.
The technical setup was also critical. The venue required a complete interpreting system, including a soundproof booth, infrared transmission system, microphones, and headsets for all participants. The system needed to be reliable, easy to use, and fully tested before each session.
In addition, the audience included participants with different levels of English proficiency, so the interpreting needed to be clear, culturally appropriate, and easy to follow.

Our Solution

Interlingual delivered a complete end-to-end interpreting solution, managing both the human and technical aspects of the project.
We provided two highly experienced Indonesian and English simultaneous interpreters, working in rotation across all sessions. This ensured consistent quality and allowed the interpreters to maintain focus and accuracy throughout the full-day program.
Our team supplied and installed a full interpreting equipment setup, including a professional booth, infrared radiators and transmitters, microphones, and headsets for the audience. All equipment was tested prior to each session to ensure smooth operation.
An experienced on-site technician from Interlingual managed the system throughout the event. This allowed the client to focus on the program while we handled all technical requirements in real time.
We worked closely with the University of Wollongong and venue staff to coordinate logistics, setup, and daily operations, ensuring everything ran on time and without disruption.

The Outcome

The conference was delivered successfully, with clear and seamless communication across all sessions.
Participants were able to fully engage in presentations and discussions, regardless of language barriers. The interpreting allowed for real-time understanding, supporting learning outcomes and active participation throughout the program.
The combination of professional interpreters and reliable equipment ensured a smooth experience for both presenters and attendees.
This project demonstrates Interlingual’s ability to deliver high-quality conference interpreting services, even in complex, multi-day environments.

A Trusted Partner for Large-Scale Projects

Interlingual supports conferences, workshops, and large-scale events across Australia with professional interpreting services and equipment. We provide complete solutions that ensure clear communication for international audiences.
We would like to thank University of Wollongong for partnering with Interlingual and trusting our interpreting services for this important program. We also acknowledge the contribution of our interpreters and technical team who ensured the success of this event.
