Translation Project for The Commissioner for Children and Young People WA – Supporting CALD Communities

Supporting inclusive communication for multicultural communities

At Interlingual, we work closely with government organisations across Australia to ensure important information is accessible to all communities. One of our recent projects involved supporting the Commissioner for Children and Young People WA with professional translation services.
This project focused on making key information available to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, ensuring families and young people can access and understand important resources.

Background

The Commissioner for Children and Young People WA required the translation of a series of documents designed to support children, young people, and families across Western Australia.
These documents play an important role in communicating rights, services, and support available to the community. To ensure accessibility, the content needed to be available in multiple languages commonly spoken across CALD communities.
The project included both new translations and updates to previously translated materials, ensuring all content reflected the most current information.

The Challenge

This project required a careful and structured approach to ensure accuracy, consistency, and cultural relevance.
Some documents needed to be translated from scratch into languages including Burmese, Cantonese (Traditional Chinese), French, Greek, Italian, Punjabi, and Spanish. At the same time, previously translated documents from earlier versions needed to be reviewed, updated, and aligned with the latest English content.
The messaging needed to remain clear and simple, while still accurately reflecting the intent of the original documents. This was especially important as the content related to rights, services, and support for children and young people.
Consistency across all languages was critical. Even small differences in wording could impact understanding, so all translations needed to follow the same tone and meaning.
The project also required efficient coordination across multiple languages and documents, ensuring deadlines were met without compromising quality.

Our Solution

Interlingual delivered a structured and reliable translation solution to support this important government initiative.
We provided translations across a wide range of languages, including Arabic, Hazaragi, Hindi, Indonesian, Mandarin (Simplified Chinese), Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese, alongside the new languages required for the updated content.
Our network of professional translators ensured that each translation was accurate, culturally appropriate, and easy to understand. We placed a strong focus on plain language, ensuring that information could be clearly understood by people from different backgrounds.
We also completed detailed reviews of previously translated documents, carefully updating them to align with the revised English versions. This ensured consistency across all materials while maintaining the integrity of the original translations.
Throughout the project, our team worked closely with the client to manage updates, feedback, and delivery timelines, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

The Outcome

Through this project, the Commissioner for Children and Young People WA is now able to provide important information to a broader range of communities across Western Australia.
Families and young people from CALD backgrounds can access information in their preferred language, supporting better understanding, engagement, and access to services.
This project highlights the important role language services play in building inclusive communities and ensuring equal access to information.
